I write up lists for the grocery store, Target, Home Depot and other stores. On the occasion, I'll write up the traditional 'to do' list that I hope will motivate me to have what I consider a productive day.
Today, I am writing a new list, an 'ignore list'. A list that deserves to be ignored and one that I'll check every now and then to make sure that I am not giving something attention that doesn't deserve it.
- rushing to get home, rushing to get to work, rushing, rushing, rushing. this isn't about being late, because lateness is not acceptable when meeting with someone, but constantly rushing around only to end up somewhere with nothing to do
- responding to every single email or text received
- cleaning the apartment for one more hour or day - ignoring the dust bunnies, forgetting the vacuuming, letting the dishes sit in the sink for that extra hour (or night), etc.
- dwelling on things I no control over - the (bad) weather, red lights, slow walking and then stopping in the middle of the sidewalk, etc
