Book: The Coral Thief
Author: Rebecca Stott
Overview: The book takes place in Paris, 1815, shortly after Napoleon surrendered at Waterloo. A young man, Daniel Conner, is a medical student traveling to Paris to study with the great professors of the Jardin des Plantes. During his stagecoach ride to Paris, M. Conner meets a stunningly beautiful woman and her intriguing daughter and, upon his arrival in Paris, discovers that the woman and child are gone and so are his letters of introduction and, more importantly, his gifts of coral specimens. M. Conner intended to use both to secure a job as an illustrator for the legendary Dr. Cuvier. Thus, begins the story of M. Conner tracking, locating the mysterious, beautiful woman and his personal effects. He quickly falls for the woman, a philosopher-thief and her elusive lifestyle.
Personal Opinion: eh. It wasn't terrible; it wasn't great. Definitely not as mysterious and exciting as I wished. I would suggest skipping it.
Now, on to the next book!
