Book: Daughter of Fortune
Author: Isabel Allende
Plot Summary:  The story begins in 1840s in Chile.  A young girl, Eliza Sommers, is raised by English siblings, Rose and Jeremy Sommers with the help of their sailor brother, John Sommers.  Eliza was left at their doorstep as a newborn and grows up sheltered in the care of the Sommers siblings.  Upon her maturity, falls in love with Joaquin Andieta, a young, impoverished Chilean.  The young couple has an affair and Eliza becomes pregnant.  Joaquin goes to California in search gold and fortune.  Eliza quickly follows with the help of Tao Chi'en, a Chinese physician, and thus begins the heroine's journey to find her first love in California.

Overview:  A great story written by a wonderful author.  I would highly recommend this story.
