green city market

Last weekend was a busy, busy weekend, especially Saturday.  That morning, I accomplished another item on my list and went to the Green City Market for the first time.

It's early in the growing season, but there was plenty of asparagus and rhubarb.  I purchase green and purple asparagus and later discovered there really is not a taste difference.  E and I also found out that grilled asparagus is really, really yummy.  The breakfast egg sandwich (sourdough bread, eggs, chives and goat cheese) was delicious and would be worth going back for that alone.  I have heard that the crepes and smoothies are amazing, but missed them on this trip.  I also need to track down the pasta lady, as I only heard good things about her pasta.  Next trip, sometime this summer, most likely in late July or early August when more veggies and fruits are in season.

As for the rest of the day, I went to the Green Festival at Navy Pier with a friend and ended the day watching my first ever roller derby match, courtesy of the Windy City Rollers.
